The
rich, rolling farmlands suddenly break away to reveal an astonishing, twisting,
turning canyon, walled with multi-colored layers of sandstone, mudstone and
coal alternating with shale sequences. The rock layers date back to the Late
Cretaceous Period, just before the demise of the dinosaurs.
